Why We Started a Reddit Giveaway for Portable Monitor & Gadgers Fans?
Portable monitors have changed a lot over the past few years.
What used to be a simple “second screen” for travelers has slowly evolved into something much bigger — mobile workstations, gaming setups on the go, creator workflows, and even full multi-screen desktop replacements that fit into a backpack.
At Intehill, we spend a lot of time reading real discussions from users across communities like Reddit. One thing became very clear:
People don’t just want another monitor anymore.
They want flexibility.
Some want a lightweight screen for working remotely in cafés or airports. Others want smoother refresh rates for handheld gaming setups. Some need accurate colors for editing photos and videos while traveling. And many users simply want more screen space without being locked to a desk.
That’s exactly why we decided to partner with the Reddit community at r/Gadgets for a giveaway event.
Instead of simply promoting products, we wanted to hear how people actually use portable monitors in their daily lives — and what still needs to improve.
Portable Monitors Are No Longer a Niche Product
A few years ago, portable displays were mostly viewed as accessories for business trips.
But even back in 2021, we could already feel that the community around portable setups was starting to grow much faster than expected.
One of the moments we still remember clearly was a giveaway event we hosted on Reddit’s r/sffpc community. The original post is actually still online today:

Our 2021 r/sffpc Giveaway Event
At the time, we were honestly surprised by how many people joined the discussion. In almost a single day, we received hundreds of real comments from users sharing their setups, ideas, and thoughts about portable monitors.
Of course, many people simply wanted a chance to win a monitor — and that was completely fine.
But because the giveaway had very few barriers to entry, people were also willing to spend a little extra time talking about how they actually used portable displays in their daily lives:
- compact gaming setups,
- SFF PC battlestations,
- coding environments,
- travel workstations,
- and multi-screen desk configurations.
That experience changed how we looked at the category.
Portable monitors were no longer just “extra screens.” They were becoming part of people’s personal workflows, creative spaces, and gaming setups.
Today, things look very different.
We regularly see users building:
- Triple-screen mobile workstations
- Nintendo Switch and handheld gaming setups
- Mac mini desk configurations
- Remote coding stations
- Compact creator desks
- Portable streaming setups
The rise of hybrid work and mobile gaming has completely changed expectations for what a portable monitor should be.
Higher refresh rates, better color accuracy, touch support, lighter materials, and single-cable USB-C connectivity are no longer “premium extras” — they are becoming standard expectations.
That shift is what inspired this giveaway.

Why Reddit?
Reddit has always been one of the most interesting places to learn how people actually use technology.
Unlike traditional marketing platforms, Reddit users tend to be extremely honest about:
- what works,
- what doesn’t,
- and what they still want improved.
That feedback is valuable.
In fact, some of the best ideas for future products often come directly from community discussions:
- brighter displays,
- quieter setups,
- better touch support,
- fewer cables,
- lighter designs,
- higher refresh rates,
- improved compatibility with devices like Mac mini, Steam Deck, and Nintendo Switch.
We believe those conversations help shape better products.
More Than Just a Giveaway
For us, this wasn’t simply about giving away hardware.
It was about understanding how modern users are building flexible setups around mobility, productivity, and entertainment.
Portable monitors are no longer just accessories.
They are becoming part of how people work, travel, create, and play.
And honestly, seeing the creative ways people use these displays has been one of the most exciting parts of building products in this category.
We’re looking forward to reading more setups, ideas, and feedback from the community — and hopefully building even better portable monitors in the future.
