TGA Game of Year 2023

The annual The Game Awards (TGA) 2023 took place on the morning of the 8th of December as scheduled, with many new titles and announcements made at the event, and Baldur's Gate 3 lived up to its name by winning Game of the Year.

After 90 hours of campaigning, I had finally finished my journey on the continent of Feren.

'I have climbed to the top of the mountains of Bode's Gate and stepped into the bottom of the sea where the Iron Throne is buried. I have let the blade in my hand drink the blood of the red dragon, and I have let my body indulge in extreme pleasure in rooms with ambiguous atmospheres. The expansive maps, high degree of freedom, exciting story, and near-original DND rules experience make exploring the world of Baldur's Gate 3 a pure pleasure. And each of the battles scattered throughout the world in a star-studded fashion offers a completely different experience. It also re-established the highest standards of modern CRPGs, making this ancient genre less cookie-cutter and more accessible to a wider audience.'

If you enjoy epic stories, seek superb freedom of play, and are comfortable with turn-based combat, then Baldur's Gate 3 will definitely be your favourite game of the year.

Baldur's Gate 3 has a much larger worldview and more detailed rules, some to the point of being harsh. Visage has strictly followed the DND rules for Larian, so we get both the hardcore run-of-the-mill feel of a TRPG from the game, as well as Larian's variations on the video game's characteristics.

Larrian was released in 2020 as an EA Experience containing the first chapter, which sold 2.5 million at the time. In August 2023, the game was officially released and quickly shot to the top of Steam's paid games chart, with over 800,000 people online, making it one of the hottest games of all time, and it's only a matter of time before it's expected to sell over 10 million. However, CRPG is now a niche, many players are following the trend into the pit, so we will briefly introduce the game features so that you can better experience the game.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a CRPG with DND rules at its core, but even if you don't understand DND at all and have never played a CRPG before, you can still get started easily. This is all thanks to its efforts to accommodate more players in the official version: instead of trying to fill you in on the massive system underneath the heavy worldview right off the bat, it's as simple and straightforward as possible to help you import the game. It also replaces the less-than-intuitive text passages of CRPGs with plenty of animated scenes, and compresses the opening tutorial on the conch-shelled ship to allow players to quickly move on to the more essential first chapter, the big map section.

Baldur's Gate 3's award is well deserved, so let's follow Baldur's Gate 3 through the best games of the past.

2022--<Elden Ring>

Elden Ring is a dark fantasy style open world role-playing action game developed by From Software and published by Bandai Namco. It was released on 25 February 2022 on Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Xbox Series S.
Elden Ring is an action RPG set in a canonical dark fantasy world. Explore vast landscapes and underground labyrinths, and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment as you overcome difficult obstacles and dangers. In addition to this, you will also find a group drama with the stakes between the characters, which is not to be missed.
The game takes place on a continent called "Falmt", where there are towering mountains, vast forests, mysterious ruins, and countless dangerous creatures. Players will take on the role of a young adventurer who embarks on a journey in search of lost treasures. In the game, players can freely explore the vast scenery and underground labyrinths. Each underground labyrinth has a unique design and layout, full of traps and puzzles. Players need to keep exploring and trying in order to find the clues leading to the exit. In the process, players will face a variety of difficult and dangerous situations. For example, they need to avoid traps, defeat monsters and solve puzzles. These challenges not only exercise the player's thinking ability and reaction speed, but also give the player a great sense of achievement in the game.

In addition to exploration and combat, the stakes between the characters in the game are also a major feature. The characters in the game all have their own stories and goals, and there are complex emotional entanglements and conflicts of interest between them. The interactions between these characters will affect the development of the game's plot, allowing players to gain a deeper understanding of the background of this fantasy world. At the same time, these characters will also provide the player with all kinds of help and support, so that the player can go more smoothly in the process of exploration.

2021--<It Takes Two>

It Take Two is a fun adventure game that forces two players to play on the same screen. The game is about a daughter, Rose, who is worried about her parents fighting and divorcing, who inadvertently possesses her parents, Cody and Mei, into dolls by praying to a magic book. And the player takes on the role of the two dolls possessed by Rose's parents, working together to break the curse in an attempt to do so.
Nearly all of the combat and puzzle-solving gameplay in each of the game's levels revolves around a certain theme, with players not only needing to use various interactive items scattered around the map to make their way through the game, but also needing to co-operate with another player or else they won't be able to move on.

Additionally, each level of the game has a varying number of mini-games in which the player can compete with another player to enhance their gaming experience. Overall this is a great online game for friends or couples!

2020--<The Last of Us Part Ⅱ>

The Last of Us Part II is a game created by Naughty Dog, released on 18 June 2020, and is a PlayStation 4 exclusive (backwards compatible for PlayStation 5 with a performance patch).
Set five years after the events of the first generation, it tells the story of Ellie, who will be forced to deal with the extreme damage her body has endured, as well as the ups and downs of her heart .
Five years after the end of their perilous journey across post-epidemic America, Ellie and Joel have settled in Jackson, Wyoming. Though still facing the threat of infection and more desperate survivors, they live a peaceful, quiet life in a thriving community of survivors.
The Last of Us Part II is a masterpiece that compares favourably to its predecessor. This time around, Ellie stepping into the spotlight feels like a way to channel all of the memorable narrative prowess that Naughty Dog has accumulated since the PS3's UNCHARTED, and takes almost every aspect of this game a giant step forward. The Last of Us Part II tells a layered and emotionally powerful story that builds on the improved sneaking and action gameplay of the original, and integrates UNCHARTED's superior movement and action. While The Last of Us Part II is an exhilarating adventure, it also explores the powerful and vulnerable aspects of human nature in surprisingly nuanced ways, and the PS4 has one of the best exclusives and one of the best titles of this generation.

Compared to the first game seven years ago, this sequel is bigger and tells a story with a broader dimension and more discursive value; gameplay-wise, it introduces open-ended levels with more freedom and exploration value while maintaining the original features, broadens the strategic possibilities of combat and sneaking, and enriches the AI performance of both human and monster enemies.
The Last of Us Part II is not only Naughty Dog's best PS4 title, it's also the best narrative-driven game to date.
In the next issue we will continue to introduce you to the best games of the past, so stay tuned!
